Honourable presidents, chairs, delegates and guests,
My name is Kareem Matouk and I am the Head of Debate for I'MUN '18. MUN has been a big part of my life for the past few years; as you know, I was Head of Fringes in I'MUN '17 and am extremely excited to be a part of the secretariat team for a second consecutive year. As Head of Debate, it is my responsibility that the delegates have important yet exciting topics to debate during the conference, and with the current state of the world I don’t think it’s going to be very difficult. From Trumps relations with Russia, to recent events between North and South Korea, I can already tell that this is going to be an interesting year.
MUN to me, is not only an event where I went to debate, it was also an event where I learnt to speak confidently in front of a crowd, networked and met interesting people. It’s a chance for students to put themselves in uncomfortable situations in front of people they don’t know and have a blast doing it. Doing this over the past 4 years has allowed me to build my character, leadership skills, knowledge about the world but most importantly it gave me the confidence to speak in front of a large group of people not afraid of judgment. That is a priceless skill to have at any point in time.
I am honoured to welcome you to I'MUN '18.
